Lecture: Baroque Zarzuela – Voice, Drama and Sensuality – ANGELA ȘINDELI (Romania)
The Baroque zarzuela, whose characteristics can also be found in interpretations of later historic periods as well, aims to introduce a new stage genre, although its categorisation is difficult due to its complexity. Some of its characteristic features include the dramatic character, humour, intrigue, masterful arias and characters who cannot face up to reality.
Spanish characteristics and tonality (historical context, vocalism), the importance of the libretto and of the recited lyrics, the most famous works of this lyric-dramatic genre, comparison of performances, the effect on the public and the future of this musical genre of folk character on the world’s famous stages, these are all topics addressed during the lecture.
